Partnership with a clear ownership agenda and operational freedom

Skirners investeringsteam i samtal
Skirner invests with a generational perspective and a clear ambition to be an active owner. We combine long horizons with clear working methods and great respect for the company's heritage - its history, culture and identity. The goal is to create the conditions for the next chapter without losing what has made the company successful.

Our Promise as Owner

Long-term, present and predictable — with responsibilities and decisions in the business.

We work closely with contractors and management, but provide great operational freedom in the company. Our contribution should be marked where it creates value, while responsibility and decisions lie in the business.

We work based on clear principles: long-term and active commitment, with confidence in management and organization. We respect the company's heritage and are flexible in structure and layout. The process should be transparent and carried out with high transaction security.

Our Investment Focus

Focus on quality companies with profitability, differentiation and potential to take the next step.

We invest in established, small and medium-sized companies with proven profitability and clear potential. The starting point is Sweden and the Nordic countries, but preferably with an international presence or ambition to grow internationally.

We are looking for businesses with clear differentiation - for example, a specialized offer or other lasting strengths. We are fundamentally sector agnostic, but with natural proximity to community building as a starting point.

Majority ownership is our main model. At the same time, we can enter into partnerships with smaller ownership stakes if there is a clear common direction forward.

From initial dialogue to long-term ownership

A clear and efficient investment process characterised by mutual consideration - from initial dialogue to long-term partnership.

We want the process to be experienced clear, respectful and efficient - with pace where there is value creation and accuracy where it is necessary.

The first dialogue is about understanding the company, the people behind it and what is important in the company's next phase — as well as what should be preserved in its heritage, culture and way of working. If there is a mutual desire to move forward, we take the next step in the process and initiate an in-depth review (due diligence), tailored to the situation. This creates the best conditions: common understanding, good transparency and a clear picture of opportunities, risks and what is required going forward.

As we approach an agreement, arrangements and conditions are formed in dialogue, taking into account the needs and objectives of both parties. We prioritize a predictable process with clear mandates, short decision paths and high transaction security in implementation.

The transaction can be intense, but it is also the starting point. Once the deal is completed, work begins on shaping the next chapter and translating the shared ambition into development.

How we create value as an owner

As owners, we create value through continuity, common goals and room for action to implement priority ventures — with a long-term perspective and a high level of ambition.

We would like the seller and key employees to continue as co-owners as it strengthens the company. We design schemes and incentives so that it works in practice and lasts over time. It strengthens the continuity of management and strategy and creates a clear consensus on what needs to be built on.

After implementation, we spend time establishing a common direction for the next phase. We go in with a clear investment hypothesis — but with respect for the company's heritage, culture and what is already working well. Not infrequently, there are also several good ideas and initiatives that have existed for a long time with the management, but have not yet been realized. A change of ownership can be a good opportunity to gather strength, prioritize and translate ambition into practical implementation.

Roles change over time. We respect that entrepreneurs and key people at different stages want to switch down or change their commitment. That's why we strive for arrangements that give freedom of action over time — with clear, attractive conditions and a structure that works even when life and roles change.

Flexibility in business structure

We adapt the business structure to the needs of the company and the owners - with clarity in the choice of path, conditions and how value can be realized over time.

Every situation is unique. Therefore, we adapt the business structure to the needs of the company and the owners.

Our ambition is to be the principal owner, but we can enter into partnerships where there is a clear path to majority. For salespeople and key people who reinvest, clarity is key: what the plan looks like, what the conditions apply and how value developments can become realisable values over time. Therefore, we attach importance to early agreement on a model with transparent conditions, strong incentives and a predetermined time when value can be realised.
